Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has taken over as Minister of Defence, with Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson formally handing over administration of the ministry to him on Friday, August 14, following a cabinet reshuffle by President John Mahama.

Adjei moves to Defence from the Works and Housing portfolio, which he has now vacated for Ahmed Ibrahim, who has himself been reassigned from the Local Government and Religious Affairs Ministry.

Dr Ato Forson had been overseeing the Defence Ministry since the death of substantive minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash.

Adjei is now expected to take full charge of the ministry's administration and oversee the implementation of government's defense policies and programs.
