ADB Medical Systems Group announced that the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Cardiac Interventional Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) should be finished by December 2026, following an extended construction period.
General Manager Alex Mensah Senyah explained during a parliamentary oversight visit that work began in February 2026 with an original three‑month target. Additional work requests and site space constraints pushed the timeline back.
"We started work in February. They wanted us to finish in three months, but we were later asked to add more work. That is why we have taken longer. The space was limited as well; those are the challenges we are facing," Senyah said to the Select Committee on Health.
The committee also met with hospital management and technical staff to review progress and discuss equipment needs. Senator Titus Kofi Beyuo, MP for Lambussie and Board Chair of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, urged the contractor to speed up the project and praised ADB Ghana Limited’s efforts.
Beyuo highlighted the need to train specialised health professionals before the centre opens, noting the facility would reduce the need for patients in the Ashanti Region to travel for cardiac care. He commended President John Dramani Mahama for expanding cardiac services beyond Accra, following the death of a KATH doctor.
ADB has pledged to supply the required workforce and materials to meet the December deadline, while KATH aims to strengthen its capacity to deliver specialised heart care locally.
