On Saturday, 17 October 2026, the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra hosted the 37th Annual National Marketing Performance Awards, where JoyNews’ #NoToGalamsey campaign was named New Media Campaign of the Year for 2025. The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) presented the honour to the Multimedia Group for its innovative use of digital platforms to amplify reporting on illegal mining and its impact on water bodies and communities.
CIMG’s citation highlighted the campaign’s use of social audio, podcasts and cross‑platform storytelling to broaden public engagement. “JoyNews used digital conversation to widen the reach of its #NoToGalamsey campaign,” the citation read. “Social audio, podcasts and cross‑platform storytelling gave audiences ways to engage with reporting on illegal mining and its effect on water and communities.”
The institute praised the campaign for turning an environmental crisis into everyday public discussion through journalism. “The campaign’s strength lies in using journalism to make an environmental crisis part of everyday public discussion,” the citation stated. It noted the scientific grounding and collaboration with experts, institutions and citizens that helped bring scientific information and citizen participation to audiences.

JoyNews has leveraged radio, television and digital channels to raise awareness, scrutinise duty‑bearers’ responses and advocate action to protect Ghana’s natural resources. The CIMG recognition underscores the campaign’s role in shaping the national conversation on illegal mining and its social and environmental consequences.
In its concluding remarks, CIMG commended the campaign for its impact, describing it as a resounding success that impressed the evaluators. The award adds to the campaign’s profile as a public‑interest media initiative focused on one of Ghana’s pressing environmental challenges.
Looking ahead, JoyNews plans to continue expanding its digital outreach, integrating new formats to sustain attention on illegal mining and to mobilise broader community participation in environmental stewardship.
