On Thursday, September 24, the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, revealed plans to establish a defence manufacturing facility in Ghana during a courtesy visit to Minister for Defence Kenneth Gilbert Adjei. The move is part of Israel’s effort to deepen defence and security cooperation with the West African nation.
Gilad said the proposed plant would strengthen local capacity in Ghana’s defence sector while creating employment opportunities. He added that the initiative is part of a broader commitment to expanding bilateral relations and tackling emerging security challenges.
The discussion also highlighted Ghana’s role in international peacekeeping, particularly its contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Gilad praised Ghanaian peacekeepers for their professionalism and dedication, noting that their service is “deeply valued by Israel and the international community.”
Adjei welcomed the proposal, expressing confidence that the partnership could be further strengthened. He called for increased cooperation in knowledge sharing, personnel training and institutional capacity‑building to equip Ghana to respond more effectively to contemporary security threats. He identified surveillance systems, cyber defence and advanced technologies as key areas for deeper collaboration.
Adjei reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to constructive engagement with Israel, seeking cooperation that promotes mutual interests, strengthens national security and contributes to the development of both countries.
