Isaac Dogboe Announces Retirement After Tough Decision

Former WBO super bantamweight world champion Isaac Dogboe confirmed his retirement from boxing earlier this month, after a career that saw him amass 24 wins and four losses, 16 by knockout.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Dogboe said the decision had not come easily. "It’s been a tough decision to make. Sometimes I’ll be there and get the itch," he explained. "An offer will come to the table, but I ask myself, ‘Do I really want to take this fight?’ So, I had to take a minute to arrive at this decision."

He added that money had never been the driving factor in his career. "It’s never been about the money for me when it comes to boxing; I just wanted to be sure I was making the right decision," Dogboe remarked.

Dogboe also revealed that moments of mental strain had weighed on him. "It drives you nuts. Sometimes it’s a little bit deeper than it seems. Our sport or industry is such that we’re constantly portraying strength. When you’re hurt, you have to get up and act like you’re okay," he said. "It’s difficult to find someone to talk to through all of this because you’re constantly thinking about your previous fights, your next bout…so many things running through your mind. Sometimes, combining that with family becomes difficult."

The former champion, known as "The Royal Storm," concluded that his retirement was the right step for his well‑being and future. He thanked fans, trainers and the boxing community for their support over the years.

Dogboe’s decision comes as he reflects on a career that began with a 2014 WBO title win and included high‑profile bouts against top contenders. While his next moves are unclear, the former champion has expressed a desire to focus on his family and mental health outside the ring.
