Emmanuel Boakye Mensah Bekoe, a 21‑year‑old illegal miner from Asuowin in the Amansie West District, was remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region on October 12, 2026. The court held that the accused had allegedly stolen property from Asuowin D/A Junior High School, including a 43‑inch television set, a fridge, seven laptop computers, a tabletop computer and GH₵1,000, totalling GH₵31,000.
The complainant, the school’s headmaster, reported that the metal burglar‑proof door and lock to his office, valued at GH₵9,500, had been damaged. After a careful inspection, the headmaster identified the stolen items and reported the incident to the Asuowin police.
ASP Frank Acheampong, the prosecuting officer, told the court presided over by Robert Addo that the accused had admitted the theft in his caution statement and led the police to his room where the television set and refrigerator were recovered. The plea of Bekoe was not accepted as police investigations were still ongoing.
Bekoe is expected to appear again before the court on October 28, 2026, to answer charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
