Manchester United suffered a shock 2-0 defeat away to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday, as Ruben Amorim's side began the new Premier League season with an embarrassing result at the MKM Stadium.
Hull took the lead in the 17th minute and doubled their advantage just before half time, in the 38th minute, to leave United chasing the game from early on. Despite controlling 72 per cent of possession and outshooting their hosts 20 to eight, with six shots on target to Hull's four, United could not find a way through, with seven of their efforts blocked and Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis making six saves.
Amorim made wholesale changes throughout the second half in search of a way back into the game, but Hull, playing their first top-flight match in nine years, held firm to record a memorable victory in front of their own supporters on the opening weekend of the season.
