The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has upgraded the Ho Technical University (HTU) Clinic to a Primary Hospital following an inspection of the facility.
Volta Regional Director of HeFRA, Divine Kporha, told the Ghana News Agency that the upgrade reflected the clinic’s steady growth from a Sick Bay into a fully functioning health facility serving both the university community and the wider public.
According to Mr Kporha, the facility recorded 24,846 out‑patient department attendances, 1,500 antenatal care visits, 154 deliveries and 1,633 child welfare clinic attendances in 2025, and a safe delivery of triplets in 2026 – the first such case in its history.
He highlighted the increasing public confidence in the clinic and the need for expanded capacity to meet the healthcare demands of the university and surrounding residents.
HeFRA’s role extends beyond regulation; the agency also supports facilities to meet required standards for safe, quality care. Mr Kporha congratulated Prof. Ben Honyenuga, Vice‑Chancellor of HTU, the University Council, Management, Dr Redeemer Fiebor, Medical Director, and the entire healthcare team on the milestone.
Dr Fiebor thanked HeFRA for its assessment and support, noting that the upgrade will position the facility to better respond to the healthcare needs of the Ho Municipality.
The clinic’s progression from a Sick Bay to a clinic and now a primary hospital underscores its expanding role in providing accessible, quality healthcare services to the university community and the general public.
