Concerned youth in Ho Zongo have publicly demanded a lasting solution to the Volta Regional Chief Imam impasse, warning that political interference could spark further violence in the community.
Spokesperson Abdul Razak Abubakar urged the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, the Volta Regional Security Council and other relevant institutions to bring closure to the dispute. He cautioned that the National Democratic Congress should avoid taking sides or failing to restore peace.
"The youth reserve the right to express their political disappointment through peaceful and lawful democratic means, including at the ballot box. No political party should take the support of any community for granted while legitimate concerns remain unresolved," said Mr Abubakar.

Abubakar recounted a December 2025 shooting at the Central Mosque that injured scores of believers. The culprits have not been prosecuted, and victims still await justice.
He called on the Interior Ministry to relaunch investigations into the incident and ensure those found culpable are brought to book. "We also call on the Minister for the Interior to take urgent interest in the reported shooting incident, ensure a thorough investigation and help prevent any further violence. The safety of worshippers and residents must be paramount," he added.

Following the shooting, the mosque was closed to the public to avert clashes, allowing only the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, and Minister Gunu to perform prayers two weeks ago. It remains locked to worshippers.
Mr Abubakar warned that the Zongo youth would stage demonstrations until an amicable solution is found and the Ho Central Mosque reopens for its intended purpose. "The reopening of the mosque must be pursued through lawful coordination with the relevant authorities, with the safety of worshippers and the wider community fully protected. We expect the Minister to act urgently and demonstrate genuine leadership before tensions escalated further," he said.
Authorities have yet to announce a concrete plan to resolve the impasse, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty and heightened tension.
