Ghana Water Limited (GWL) is addressing ongoing water supply challenges in several Greater Accra communities, with a particular focus on Tema and Ashaiman. Communications Manager Stanley Martey told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that the company is constantly monitoring the distribution system, troubleshooting problems and working to ensure that available water reaches as many consumers as possible.

Martey acknowledged a gap between demand and supply but stressed that better management of the limited water could still allow households to receive water at least twice a week. He noted that water availability varies by location, with some areas receiving water three to four days a week, while others experience more serious shortages.

Communities such as Golf City, Ashaiman, Gbetsile, Community 24, 25 and Prampram have faced recent difficulties. GWL has identified the causes in many of these areas and has already rectified several problems, according to Martey. The company’s General Manager of Operations is on the ground monitoring the situation, and initial signs point to an improvement in the system.

GWL also monitors water pressure across the network daily, using platforms that record pressure levels hourly. When pressure drops, the technical team responds immediately. Martey highlighted challenges along the transmission network between Kpong and Tema, where significant volumes of water are lost before reaching the Tema booster station. GWL has invested nearly GH¢6 million to replace weak and perforated sections of the transmission lines, which has increased the amount of water reaching the system, though low pressure remains an issue.

The company has urged residents in affected communities to exercise patience while it works to restore a more consistent supply. GWL remains committed to improving water distribution and ensuring that communities receive reliable water access.
