Finance Minister Announces Over GH¢4.4bn Paid to SSNIT for Second‑Tier Pension Obligations

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson confirmed that the government has paid over GH¢4.4 billion to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to settle second‑tier pension obligations. The payment, he said, protects workers’ pensions and demonstrates the government’s commitment to managing public money responsibly and meeting its obligations.

Forson added that the disbursement follows a similar release of GH¢24.8 billion to statutory funds since January 2026, which were paid on time and in full to support schools, healthcare, roads and local development. He stressed that timely releases ensure that the funds have the resources needed to deliver essential services to Ghanaians.

"Government has paid over GH¢4.40 billion to SSNIT and for Second‑Tier Pension obligations," Forson said. "This helps protect workers’ pensions and shows our commitment to managing public money responsibly and meeting our obligations."
