The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) delivered GH¢33,100 to Pantang Hospital on Tuesday, settling the debt that had accrued from the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly (ASMA) for services rendered to patients with mental health conditions found on the streets.
Chairperson Abena Osei‑Asare confirmed that the payment fulfilled an earlier pledge to help the hospital recover the money and remove the outstanding amount from its books. She explained that the debt had been recorded as an audit infraction and that the hospital should now complete the necessary validation with the Audit Service to have the infraction removed.
“Pantang Hospital, the other time you visited us, there were some outstanding payments that had to do with GMA and Akuapem South Municipal Assembly and you explained the circumstances surrounding the debt and public accounts said they were going to make sure they pay their money,” Osei‑Asare said. “So today we are here to deliver on what we said, a total of 33,100 Ghana Cedis.”
She added that on behalf of the committee, the debt would be cleared from the hospital’s records once the validation is sent to the Audit Service. The PAC’s intervention has removed a lingering financial burden from Pantang Hospital’s accounts.
Moving forward, the hospital will need to complete the audit validation process to ensure the infraction is officially struck off its books. The PAC remains committed to monitoring the payment’s impact and ensuring transparency in public health funding.
