Dr. George Kojo Owusu, chief executive officer of Ghana’s National Ambulance Service (NAS), has departed for a strategic working visit to the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by senior NAS officials. The trip is aimed at cementing a partnership with the China‑Africa Hospitals Alliance Joint Working Group on Emergency Rescue.
The collaboration seeks to close critical gaps in Ghana’s emergency medical services (EMS) by introducing cutting‑edge technology, modernising dispatch systems, and enhancing rapid response infrastructure across the country.

Key components of the partnership include capacity‑building programmes that will see Ghanaian emergency medical technicians and paramedics undergo specialised training and exchange programmes. Technological integration plans involve deploying advanced digital dispatch platforms, AI‑driven ambulance tracking and smart hospital networks to cut response times.

Equipment and infrastructure support will be explored to procure state‑of‑the‑art medical gear and specialised rescue vehicles suited to Ghana’s varied terrains. The alliance is viewed as a milestone in the country’s healthcare evolution, reinforcing NAS’s commitment to safeguarding lives and improving clinical outcomes.
As the working visit concludes, stakeholders expect actionable initiatives that will reshape emergency medical care delivery nationwide.
