Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson told a press conference on Tuesday that Ghana has moved from an economic crisis to a position where it is ready for a sustained take‑off. He said the country has turned the tide and is now better positioned to pursue its next phase of growth.
Forson cautioned that the improving outlook should not breed complacency. He warned that the government must manage the recovery carefully to preserve macro‑economic stability, saying,
"We will take off cautiously. Bear in mind that all the gains we have made are dependent on us maintaining macroeconomic stability,"he said.
The minister emphasized that sustaining the recovery will require protecting the foundations already laid while pursuing further progress. He reminded leaders that they were elected to address Ghana’s crisis, adding,
"We were elected to come and save a country in crisis. Don’t forget that. President Mahama and his members of Parliament were elected to save this country because Ghana was in a crisis. Let us not forget that,"he said.
Forson concluded that fulfilling the mandate is a collective responsibility, urging that the government work for the satisfaction of the people of Ghana. He stressed that maintaining stability is essential for turning gains into lasting improvements for households and businesses.
Observers note that the minister’s remarks come as Ghana’s economy shows signs of recovery after a period of high inflation and debt pressure. The government’s next steps will likely focus on fiscal consolidation and investment promotion to sustain the momentum.
