The Ghana U-20 women’s national team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, held in Poland.

Head coach Charles Sampson’s side was missing centre‑back Margaret Agyapomaa, who had been sent off in the final qualifier against Uganda.

Ecuador opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, and a second goal before halftime doubled their advantage. Ghana struggled to build play and could not find a way past the South American side.

After the break, Ecuador sealed the match with a third goal, leaving the Black Princesses with a 0-3 loss.

With this result, Ghana’s record at the World Cup remains a single win since their debut in 2010. The team will next face South Korea and France in Group C.
