In a move aimed at reversing the decline of Ghana’s national teams, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) agreed on Friday to set up a five‑member Technical Search Committee. The panel will scout for and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars, with its report due by 9 October 2026.

The decision follows a meeting between the two bodies that highlighted public concern over the teams’ recent performances. The ministry said it recognises the need for decisive action, improved performance and greater accountability.

While the statement did not name the committee members, it did outline key conditions for the new coach: he or she must reside in Ghana and regularly monitor the domestic league. The agreement also calls for a stronger domestic talent pipeline, with the coach expected to oversee consistent scouting of players in local competitions.

Beyond the head‑coach search, the meeting set out a comprehensive overhaul of Ghanaian football development. A technical head will coordinate the U15, U17 and U20 national teams, each receiving its own dedicated technical staff. The structure will include new competition arrangements and a system to track player progression through the age groups.

The GFA Technical Directorate will work with the National Schools and Grassroots Sports programme and football academies to strengthen league development and player progression. U18 and U19 competitions will be paused after current tournaments finish to allow a smooth transition to the new framework.

To ensure implementation, the ministry and GFA will establish a Public Interest Committee that will supervise the reforms. The two sides also discussed relocating the technical hub to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram and tightening national team management committees from five to three members.

Further negotiations will determine the exact structure and responsibilities of the new committees, and a FIFA‑standard cooperation agreement is expected to formalise the partnership between the ministry and the GFA. The ministry pledged to keep the public informed as reforms unfold.
