The Ghana Armwrestling Federation has named its 15‑member squad for the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship, set to take place in New Delhi, India, from October 26 to November 7. The contingent includes world‑class athletes such as Mabel Yeboah (60 kg), Blessed Abeka Nunoo (65 kg) and Grace Minta (89 kg), as well as women’s category stars Florence Boakye, Afia Kumah and Comfort Dunyo, all in the 110 + kg division. The men’s side features Edward Asamoah Yamoah, Haruna Tahiru, Godwin Sackey, Daniel Acquah, Charles Osei Asibey Jr., Henry Otoo and Asinu Dodzie, who are expected to bring experience and competitive spirit to the field.
Ghana has steadily risen in the armwrestling world, with its athletes earning medals at continental and global meets. The federation believes the team can challenge the world’s best and further elevate Ghana’s sporting reputation. However, the cost of transporting the squad to India remains a hurdle. The federation has therefore appealed to corporate Ghana, government institutions, philanthropists and sports enthusiasts to fund travel and participation expenses.
“We need support to ensure our athletes can represent Ghana on the world stage,” the federation said. “Sponsors will gain visibility in a sport that delivers results and boosts Ghana’s international profile.” The appeal comes at a critical time, as the federation hopes to secure the necessary resources before the competition begins.
Support from the private sector and other well‑meaning Ghanaians could provide a vital boost to the team’s campaign and offer sponsors an opportunity to associate their brands with a sport that continues to grow in prominence.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation remains optimistic that the appeal will attract the needed backing to enable the team’s travel to India and competition against the world’s elite armwrestlers.
