The Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) and the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen exploration efforts in Ghana’s mining sector.
The agreement is part of a wider push to improve collaboration among state institutions and to ensure more responsible management of the country’s mineral resources.
Under the MoU, the Responsible Cooperative Mining (rCOMSDEP) will work with GoldBod to support responsible mining practices. GoldBod is also partnering with the Forestry Commission on land reclamation and providing vehicles to the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP) as part of ongoing inter‑agency efforts in the mining sector.
These collaborations aim to enhance coordination among institutions involved in mineral exploration, responsible mining and the restoration of degraded mining lands.
According to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the initiatives align with the government’s agenda to strengthen Ghana’s gold sector, increase local value retention and ensure that mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Ministry has urged the public and the media to rely on official communications from the Ministry and GoldBod for governance and operational matters concerning the Gold Board.
