Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association, has publicly stated that his contributions to the sport will be better recognised once his term ends. Speaking to 3Sports, he acknowledged the criticism that comes with leading the GFA but stressed his focus on building a positive legacy for Ghana football.
Okraku said, “My job is also to play my part. I will say that when I am gone, just like Kwame Nkrumah, people will appreciate.” He added that the public will not only appreciate but also remember the good work done for the sport. The comments were made amid ongoing scrutiny of his administration.
“President Kwesi Nyantakyi, same. At the end he took Ghana to the World Cup, he took Ghana to the finals of the AFCON, he did his part and my job is also to play my part,” Okraku remarked.
He pointed to former GFA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi as an example of a leader who faced criticism yet left a legacy of notable achievements, including guiding Ghana to the FIFA World Cup and an Africa Cup of Nations final. Okraku insists that history will ultimately judge his tenure, and he hopes the lasting memory will be the positive strides made in developing Ghanaian football.
