GAUA-UG Urges University Management to Respect Strike Participants

The University of Ghana branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA-UG) has called on university management to honour the rights of its members who remain on strike. The letter, dated September 30, 2026, was addressed to the Vice‑Chancellor and warned that staff will continue to withdraw services until further notice from GAUA‑UG’s National Executive Committee.

According to the association, the strike began on September 15 after negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) broke down. GAUA‑UG stated that the withdrawal covers all official duties performed physically, remotely or virtually, including meetings, training programmes and other work‑related assignments.

The association urged provosts, deans, directors, heads of departments and other stakeholders to refrain from requiring, pressuring or compelling members to perform official duties while the strike remains in force. It also cautioned against threats of transfer, withholding of promotions and other adverse treatment intended to force members back to work.

While acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the withdrawal of services, GAUA‑UG appealed to management and the university community to remain understanding as efforts to resolve the outstanding concerns continue through dialogue and negotiations. Any decision to suspend or end the industrial action will be communicated officially by the national leadership, the association added.
