Day One of the 2026 Literacy Challenge saw ten regional teams clash in a series of heats, each point proving decisive in the push for qualification. Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern, Northern and Bono emerged as the day’s successful teams, earning places in the next stage, while Upper West, Upper East, Central, Ashanti and Western were knocked out after failing to secure a spot in their respective heats.
The competition featured several nail‑biting encounters. Northern narrowly edged Ashanti 62‑58, while Eastern delivered a convincing 54‑36 win over Central. Greater Accra progressed with a 58‑45 victory against Upper East, and Volta completed the list of qualifiers by defeating Upper West.
With five teams still in contention, the stakes will rise on Day Two when the surviving teams face a Mega Challenge to decide the final four. Those four will then battle for the ultimate prize and the top three positions in the 2026 Literacy Challenge.
In addition to the fierce competition, contestants were honoured for their participation with certificates, medals, gifts and souvenirs from sponsors, recognising their commitment to the event.
The 2026 Literacy Challenge is organised by Channel One TV in partnership with Citi FM, with sponsorship support from Deli, Tema Oil Refinery, SIC Insurance, Prospectus Ghana and Advocate Publishing.
