Titus Beyuo Urges Contractor to Speed Up KATH Cardiac Centre

During a parliamentary oversight visit, Member of Parliament for Lambussie and Board Chair of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Titus Beyuo, pressed the contractor on the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Cardiac Interventional Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to accelerate work.

Mr Beyuo praised ADB Ghana Limited for the progress made so far but warned that the project must be finished on schedule and that the country needs to train specialists to run the new facility. He said the centre’s completion should go hand in hand with workforce development.

He also thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the decision to expand cath labs beyond Accra, noting that the initiative was sparked by the death of a KATH doctor and that similar facilities should be set up in the Northern Region and elsewhere.

“We plead with the contractor to finish up, same as the one at Tamale. We should also pay attention to the human resources we need. We should start training them so that by the time the structure is ready, we will have people who can work in all the regions where the buildings are being constructed,” he added.

The new centre is expected to boost KATH’s ability to offer advanced cardiac care to patients in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
