EOCO Urges No Speculation on Baffour Awuah’s Culpability

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, 1 October 2026, urged Ghanaians to refrain from drawing conclusions about the culpability of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners and the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South.

According to the agency, Baffour Awuah voluntarily turned himself in at its premises around 10 a.m. to cooperate with investigators. He was subsequently taken into custody as the investigation began.

EOCO said the probe covers allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax‑related offences, among other matters. The office stressed that the investigations remain in progress and that any conclusions about guilt should wait until the investigative and judicial processes are complete.

“The public is therefore urged to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual,” the agency said in a statement.

EOCO added that it will continue to pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the evidence at hand and ensure that all persons involved are afforded their constitutional and legal rights. The agency also pledged to conduct the investigations “professionally, independently and in accordance with due process” and to provide further information when appropriate and legally permissible.

Observers note that the case highlights the growing scrutiny of political figures in Ghana’s fight against organised crime. The outcome of the investigation will be closely watched by both the public and the legal community.
