Elon Musk Says Tesla‑SpaceX Merger is Under Active Consideration

Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he likes the idea of merging Tesla and SpaceX and that the proposal is being actively examined by special committees within both firms.

During a call with financial analysts about SpaceX’s quarterly results, Musk replied “Do I think it would be a good idea? Yes.” He added that the committees have not yet agreed on any terms and that a merger would still need shareholder approval.

With Tesla valued at roughly $1.5 trillion and SpaceX at $2 trillion, a combined entity would rank among the largest mergers ever. Musk noted that he is not a member of either committee and described himself as a “conflicted party.”

He likened the prospect to “tap dancing through a minefield,” emphasizing the complexity and the high hurdle of securing at least 50 % shareholder support for the deal. Musk has previously seen shareholders back his initiatives, such as a $1 trillion compensation package last year.

Both companies have already begun collaborating, exemplified by the Terafab joint venture to produce computer chips and SpaceX’s expansion into cloud compute services for firms like Anthropic and Google, which now accounts for $7.5 bn of the company’s profit.

As the discussion continues, stakeholders will watch the committees’ progress and the shareholders’ votes to determine whether the mega‑merger moves forward.
