Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have given President John Dramani Mahama a one‑week deadline to remove Municipal Chief Executive Jerryne Asante after accusing her of undermining Assembly decisions and mismanaging municipal resources. The demand was renewed on Friday, October 16, 2026, following alleged misconduct and a breakdown in the working relationship between the Assembly and the municipal administration.
During a press conference, Assembly spokesperson George Kuntu Blankson, representing the Kwamo Electoral Area, alleged that Ms Asante colluded with the Municipal Head of Works to issue a fraudulent building‑permit receipt and used her official vehicle to facilitate alleged extortion by the Municipal Engineer. He also accused her of attempting to transfer the Municipal Finance Officer and of failing to address worsening sanitation challenges in the municipality.
The Assembly members said the alleged actions had undermined decisions taken by the Assembly, citing disputes over the enforcement of a High Court order to demolish a building encroaching on a road at Achiakrom and the removal of laterite dumped on a wetland along the River Baffoe on the Ejisuman Senior High School road. They had raised the two issues at a press conference on July 24, 2026, and gave Ms Asante one week to resign or be replaced. No action had been taken more than two months later, prompting the renewed appeal to the President.
“More than two months after our press conference, no action has been taken. This means that both the MCE and the president do not take the resolution of the assembly members seriously,” Mr Blankson said. The Assembly members warned that the continued failure to address their concerns had weakened their authority and further strained their relationship with the municipal administration.
