Former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye Ackah, has called on the party to disqualify Obuasi Senior High Technical School headmaster Zakaria Abdulai from contesting the upcoming Juaben constituency chairmanship election. Ackah said Abdulai’s candidacy would be a disgrace to the party, citing allegations that the headmaster sexually abused about 16 students at the school.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Nnawɔtwe Yi on Saturday, October 17, Ackah warned that party membership should not shield a person accused of raping a child. He urged the constituency vetting committee to bar Abdulai and asked national leadership to suspend him from the NDC, adding that suspension alone would not suffice.
Ackah appealed to President, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, and Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak to intervene, saying the headmaster’s alleged conduct had no justification. He also criticized the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive for failing to act after a victim’s family approached her.

The Ghana Education Service has interdicted Abdulai following a JoyNews investigation, and a police complaint has been lodged. The GES noted that student unrest over the case led to damage of school property and temporary closure of the school.
Ackah warned that if the law continues to fail, students may take matters into their own hands, a trend he said could become the norm. He concluded that the party must not allow Abdulai to lead, claiming it would collapse the NDC’s integrity.
