DirectAid Ghana has finished distributing relief packages to residents of Alajo, Abofu‑Achimota, Nana Krom‑Lakeside‑Santor, Abeka, Dansoman and Ablekuma‑Manhea in Greater Accra, and to Kasoa in the Central Region. The operation, part of a broader GH¢2 million programme, aimed to assist roughly 1,500 families whose homes and livelihoods were damaged by the June 2026 floods.
Beneficiaries received rice, cooking oil, spaghetti, beans, tomatoes and other staples, alongside mattresses, bedsheets, blankets, towels, soap and Parazone. The supplies were made possible through donations from Kuwait and coordination with government officials.
DirectAid said it will soon extend support to clinics and hospitals with medical supplies to bolster health services in the affected areas. At the penultimate distribution in Dansoman, Hajia Rakia Abdulai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund, urged residents to stop building on waterways and disposing of waste in drains, citing these practices as key contributors to flooding.
She called for greater community responsibility and highlighted the importance of preventive measures to protect lives and property. The completion of the relief exercise has reignited calls for stronger flood prevention and enforcement against illegal development on waterways.
