DEKSTA Releases New Track ‘Azula’ Inspired by Avatar Character

Ghanaian musician DEKSTA has dropped a new single titled Azula, drawing inspiration from the complex antagonist of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The track, released earlier this month, features production work by engineer BIG Haszel.

In a recent interview, DEKSTA explained that his fascination with Azula’s blend of power and manipulation shaped the song’s concept. He described the character as a “powerful but manipulative figure whose desire for power often outweighs her personal relationships.”

DEKSTA said he met BIG Haszel and chose to collaborate with him to showcase the engineer’s strengths. He developed the melodies after receiving a beat, repeatedly thinking of the name Azula as he worked. “The song isn’t necessarily about anyone or inspired by anyone, just the name Azula,” he noted, adding that he created his own version of the character as a fiery, disloyal, independent, and manipulative figure.

Some lyrics reference the animated series, allowing fans to spot nods to the original storyline. The recording process began with DEKSTA recording his material on his phone and sending it to BIG Haszel, who was impressed and invited him to a studio for a professional session. Both artists share a passion for the series, which helped streamline their collaboration.

DEKSTA emphasized that his music is rooted in personal experiences and interests, making it authentic and reflective of who he is today.
