In their first top‑flight clash, Debibi United kept Asante Kotoko at bay with a 2-2 draw in the opening game of the Ghana Premier League season at Berekum Golden City Park.
Kotoko started strong, with Yakubu Dogo scoring in the 15th minute after a through ball from Hubert Gyau. The striker’s clinical finish gave the Porcupine Warriors a 1-0 advantage before the break.
Debibi United answered in the second half, equalising four minutes in with a free‑kick from Richard Owusu that found the back of the net. The visitors then took the lead when Owusu netted a second goal in the 73rd minute, putting Debibi ahead 2-1.
Just six minutes later, Gyau restored parity for Kotoko, heading a scramble into the net to level the score at 2-2. Neither side managed a third goal, and the match ended in a shared point.
The result gives Debibi United an encouraging start after promotion from Division One, while Kotoko’s new head coach Eric Tinkler opens his league tenure with a point rather than a win. Both teams now look ahead to their next fixtures: Kotoko will host Heart of Lions, and Debibi United will travel to face Bechem United.
