David Selassie Anthony, better known as “DeAccra Mayor” or “Dee Mayor,” has announced his intention to contest the Deputy National Organiser position within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The move follows consultations with party members, organisers and supporters across all 16 regions, according to the candidate himself.
Anthony’s campaign is built around strengthening the NDC’s grassroots structures, mobilising supporters for the 2028 general elections and creating greater opportunities for local contributors to influence party policy and national development. In a recent interview he stated,
"The strength of this party has never been at the top. It has always been in the constituencies."
Central to his platform is a push for functional constituency and regional organising layers, with clear responsibilities, regular contact and a direct route for concerns to reach national leadership. He also highlighted the need to prioritise organiser welfare, arguing that those who serve the party between elections are often the last remembered. “An organiser who gives the party his time should not be the last person the party remembers,” he said.
Anthony emphasised that the upcoming 2028 elections will demand sustained organisation and that the contest for national party positions offers aspirants a chance to demonstrate how their leadership can translate into stronger mobilisation and participation at the local level. He added that he will outline specific commitments on grassroots and political mobilisation in the coming weeks.
With his experience in local governance and a reputation for grassroots engagement, Anthony positions himself as a bridge between the party’s national leadership and its base. His bid is seen as an attempt to bring renewed energy to the NDC’s organisational backbone and to ensure that the party’s structures are not merely nominal but actively functional.
Observers note that the Deputy National Organiser role will be pivotal in coordinating party activities across the country, especially as the NDC prepares for the 2028 electoral cycle. Anthony’s focus on organiser welfare and grassroots empowerment could set a new standard for party administration in Ghana.
