Darkuman–Kaneshie Corridor: Ministry Rolls Out 24‑Hour Work Schedule

The Ministry of Roads has adopted a 24‑hour work schedule for the rehabilitation of the Darkuman Junction–Kaneshie First Light corridor in Accra to accelerate construction and ensure the project is completed on schedule.

The works, being undertaken by contractors including Awerco Construction Limited, cover road rehabilitation, civil works and underground storm drain construction along sections stretching from Atico Junction through Kaneshie First Light to Hansonic Junction.

The round‑the‑clock schedule is expected to speed up progress on the project and help ease traffic congestion along the busy corridor, which serves motorists and commuters travelling between commercial and residential communities, including Kaneshie, Dansoman and Darkuman.

The rehabilitation is intended to address years of road deterioration and drainage challenges that have made movement difficult for motorists and raised concerns about road safety.

Work on the corridor commenced on Friday, August 21, 2026, following the engagement of contractors by the Ministry of Roads to rehabilitate damaged sections and improve drainage infrastructure.

Excavation and drain construction have necessitated localised traffic adjustments along parts of the route. The completed works are expected to improve stormwater drainage, restore damaged road surfaces and provide a safer, more durable route for road users.

The expanded scope, covering sections from Atico Junction to Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction, is also expected to improve connectivity and reduce the difficulties faced by commuters who use the corridor daily.

The Ministry’s adoption of the 24‑hour schedule is aimed at maintaining momentum on the project and ensuring that the rehabilitation works meet the stipulated completion deadline.
