In a move aimed at strengthening football across the continent, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced that each of the 54 CAF Member Associations will receive up to USD 700,000 annually from CAF. The new figure represents a 250% jump from the USD 200,000 that associations received in 2021, and follows a series of incremental increases to USD 400,000, USD 525,000, and now USD 700,000.
CAF Zonal Unions will also benefit from a 20% boost, receiving USD 900,000 each year compared to the previous USD 750,000. The announcement was made during a press conference where Motsepe highlighted the commitment of CAF’s Executive Committee to making football in every African nation world‑class and self‑sustaining.
The additional funding is earmarked for strengthening development structures, investing in youth and women’s football, improving administration and governance, and building sustainable programmes that create opportunities for players, coaches, referees and other stakeholders.
Dr Motsepe stressed that the increase is part of a broader strategy to elevate the quality of football across Africa, ensuring that member associations have the resources needed to compete on the global stage.
CAF’s decision follows a pattern of steady financial support, with the association having doubled its subventions from USD 200,000 to USD 400,000 in 2021, before further raising them to USD 525,000 in subsequent years. The latest allocation reflects CAF’s continued investment in the sport’s growth and the development of its infrastructure.
Football fans and stakeholders across the continent will now see a tangible boost in funding, which is expected to translate into better facilities, coaching, and competitive opportunities for African football at all levels.
