Ho Central Breast Screening Identifies Four Suspected Cancer Cases

A breast cancer screening exercise in the Akrofu Electoral Area of the Ho Central Constituency identified four suspected cases among 202 people screened, with the affected individuals referred to health facilities for further assessment and treatment.

Madam Perfect Titiati, Director of the Ho Municipal Health Directorate, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that the four individuals were receiving further care.

The exercise aimed to promote early detection and encourage residents to prioritise breast health. Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, praised the strong participation and stressed the importance of early identification and timely medical attention.

He urged residents to practise regular breast self‑examination and seek medical care whenever they notice unusual changes, noting that early detection significantly improves treatment success.

Kpotosu pledged to sustain and expand the screening programme to improve access to early detection services and ensure prompt medical attention for suspected cases.

Comfort Atefoeh, a participant, thanked the MP and health workers for organising the exercise. She said fear of a possible diagnosis had initially discouraged her, but she was relieved after no abnormality was detected.

"I was so scared to go through the screening for fear of having something in my breast, but God being so good, nothing was detected," she said.

The exercise highlights the importance of community‑based screening in encouraging early medical consultations and helping residents overcome the fear associated with breast cancer testing.
