Bono East Minister Urges Contractors to Accelerate 24-Hour Economy Market Projects

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, called a high‑stakes review meeting at the Regional Coordinating Council on Tuesday, two weeks after a comprehensive inspection tour of the 24‑Hour Economy Market sites across the region.

All contractors, consultants, engineers and the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from the 11 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies were present. Antwi said the gathering aimed to assess progress, identify delays and improve contractor performance.

During his tour, the Minister inspected each project site, expressing satisfaction with some districts while visibly disappointed by others. He noted the tour provided crucial insight that shaped the meeting’s agenda.

In a move designed to promote transparency, every contractor was required to display their work progress and outline the challenges they faced. The approach was praised by Isaac Donkor, the Kintampo North MMDCE and dean of MMDCEs, who said the open display would foster healthy competition among contractors.

Antwi highlighted the broader economic significance of the markets, stressing they would create jobs and boost revenue mobilisation for local assemblies. He warned that contractors who fail to accelerate their work would be held accountable.

With the Regional Coordinating Council set to maintain close monitoring of all sites, residents across Bono East are watching closely, hoping the markets will soon become a reality that transforms local economies.
