The Bono East Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) held a fire‑safety workshop on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, in Techiman. Fifty‑five leaders from local artisan groups and master craftsmen attended the session, which aimed to arm community figures with knowledge to avert workplace hazards.
ACFO I Rev. Naomi Ofori‑Adubea Sarpong, the regional fire commander, explained that the event was a key part of the Service’s mandate under Act 537 of 1997. “Our goal is to ensure that fires do not occur in the first place,” she said. “If we are successful in prevention, the need for firefighting will drastically reduce. We are committed to continuous education, and the Fire Safety Education Team will remain on your doorstep to ensure that everyone, from master to apprentice, becomes fire safety conscious.”
The workshop featured an interactive Q&A session where participants asked about safety protocols specific to their trades. The leaders praised the commander for initiating what they called a “first‑of‑its‑kind” engagement and urged that such programs become regular.
One participant said on behalf of the group, “We are grateful for this knowledge, as it is the first time we are having such a direct conversation with the Fire Service.” The event ended with refreshments and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.
The initiative underscores the GNFS’s proactive approach to building a safer community, beginning with those who shape the next generation of Ghanaian artisans.
