Two years after opening its first outlets in Kumasi, Bolt Food has reported that its city‑wide activity has more than doubled, with a year‑on‑year increase exceeding 100% in its second year of operations.
The surge underscores the growing acceptance of app‑based delivery beyond Accra and highlights Kumasi’s emerging role as a key market for the company’s expansion strategy in Ghana.
Since its entry, Bolt Food has linked local restaurants and food merchants to customers through its platform, offering merchants an additional channel to reach patrons beyond physical storefronts.
Ali Zaryab, Bolt Food’s General Manager, said the city’s performance demonstrates why expanding beyond the capital was a vital part of the firm’s growth plan in Ghana.
“When we expanded Bolt Food to Kumasi, we saw an opportunity to serve one of Ghana’s largest and most commercially active cities. Nearly two years later, the fact that the business is still growing at more than 100% year‑on‑year shows that the demand was not simply an initial launch effect,” Zaryab said.
He added that the continued growth reflects a broader shift in how customers use delivery platforms, noting that while restaurant meals remain important, delivery is becoming a familiar option for everyday convenience.
“What is particularly encouraging about Kumasi is not just the growth but the breadth of demand we’re beginning to see,” Zaryab added. “Food delivery may have been the starting point, but customers are increasingly looking for convenience across different parts of their day. That creates an opportunity for restaurants to reach customers in new ways.”
Bolt Food plans to keep working with local merchants and couriers as it strengthens operations in Kumasi and responds to evolving customer demand.
The performance comes as Bolt Food continues to broaden its delivery offering in Ghana, connecting customers with restaurants and retailers through its app.
