Bolt Driver Sentenced to 25 Years for Robbing Beautician in Adenta

In a hard‑labour conviction, the Adenta Circuit Court sentenced 22‑year‑old motor mechanic and Bolt driver Emmanuel Kofi Mensah to 25 years’ imprisonment for robbing beautician Yvonne Dzane Dzifa on September 23, 2026.

Mensah, who was charged with robbery, pleaded guilty and was found guilty by the court presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, presented evidence that Mensah boarded Dzifa’s Bolt vehicle at Madina Zongo Junction, failed to stop at Adenta Barrier, and drove to Mantey Farms where he attacked the complainant.

During the assault, Mensah pulled Dzifa from the vehicle, repeatedly struck her with a cutlass and slashed her left wrist and little finger. He then forced her to hand over her handbag, which contained an iPhone 17 Pro Max worth GH¢18,000, an iPhone 12 worth GH¢3,500, GH¢3,200 in cash and other personal effects. Dzifa resisted, fled into a bush and later hid in a nearby house until police rescued her the next morning.

Police recovered a cutlass from Mensah’s shorts and found that he had sent the stolen iPhone to an Apple shop where the shop owner, upon seeing Dzifa’s photo on the device, arrested him. Mensah admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.

Mensah remains a convict and is still living at Adenta New Site. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest his accomplice, who was at large during the robbery.

The case highlights the growing concern over violent crimes involving ride‑share services in Ghana.
