Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has dropped his highly anticipated six‑track EP, Sun Sherif, via RBA/EMPIRE. The release follows the success of his sophomore album, Iron Boy, and marks a new chapter in the 24‑year‑old’s career.
Led by the single “Love Again”, which features Trinidadian artist Full Blown, the EP showcases a softer, more intimate side of Black Sherif while retaining the vivid storytelling and emotional depth that have become central to his music. The project explores love, life, self‑discovery and resilience from a more vulnerable perspective.
Speaking about the inspiration, Black Sherif said he has struggled with receiving and holding on to love despite a deep craving for intimacy. “Almost all of the necessary affections that I have needed, and have gotten, came from afar, physically and figuratively. As a result, I have a tough time receiving and keeping love, or better said, intimacy, even though I crave it intensely,” he explained. “Which, in my adult years, has become one of the greatest discussions in my bedroom mirror. With this project, I have allowed you a glimpse of it.”
The EP marks a noticeable shift from Iron Boy, which focused heavily on resilience, self‑preservation and the emotional weight of his rise to fame. On Sun Sherif, the artist allows more light into his music, exploring vulnerability without losing the intensity that has defined his career. “Expresso” carries some of the pressure associated with Iron Boy, touching on fast success, loneliness, excess, risk and the personal cost of staying grounded. “Run Around” moves into matters of the heart, presenting love as a plea for understanding, while “Jolie” offers perhaps the clearest expression of devotion on the project.
On “Forever”, featuring AratheJay, Black Sherif returns to the spiritual side of his songwriting, presenting solitude through the lens of faith. “Frontline”, meanwhile, brings back the harder edge of his music, addressing betrayal, money, pride, and the constant need to remain prepared for what lies ahead.
Ahead of the release, the artist urged fans to approach the project with an open mind, saying, “Open your ears and your heart.” The EP follows Black Sherif’s recent expansion into fashion, sports and conversations around African identity, including walking for Labrum London at London Fashion Week, debuting at Paris Fashion Week with Off‑White, and being styled by Christian Louboutin for a GQ event during the BRIT Awards week.
With Sun Sherif, Black Sherif continues to position himself beyond the traditional boundaries of music, using his art and growing cultural influence to tell a more personal story.
