Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, met with about 2,500 deacons, deaconesses and departmental leaders at Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon. The briefing, held on Tuesday, outlined preparations for the 10th Triennial World Congress, which will run from Wednesday, October 14, to Friday, October 16, 2026.

Wengam explained the roles the laity will play in ensuring the success of the Congress, noting that this will be the first time the event is hosted in Africa in the denomination’s 115‑year history. The theme, “Commissioned — One Mandate, Every Nation,” will guide the three‑day programme, which includes morning capacity‑building sessions at Black Star Square and evening gospel revival rallies at Accra Sports Stadium open to all denominations.

Free attendance will be offered for the revival rallies, where gospel artists such as Ghanaian musician Joe Mettle, Nigerian performers Dunsin and Sinah, and American singer Angela Donadio are slated to perform. Wengam urged active participation to justify Ghana’s selection as host and to secure the event’s overwhelming success.

The General Superintendent also highlighted that Assemblies of God is the world’s largest Protestant denomination, with a reported population of 89.9 million. He said the Congress will examine strategies to establish one million additional churches under the MM33 Agenda as part of efforts to mark 2,000 years since the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Mr. Fred Darko, Vice Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, affirmed that every effort is being made to meet world‑class standards. Rev. Andrews Awintia, Chairman of the Planning Committee, briefed participants on transport arrangements, while Rev. Kwadwo Boateng Bempah, Assistant General Superintendent, appealed for funds to support the Congress budget and encouraged pastors and members to seek financial blessings. The General Secretary, Rev. Albert Anane, led prayers for the successful organisation of the World Congress.

As the Congress draws near, the Assemblies of God community in Ghana is rallying to showcase the continent’s capacity for hosting a global religious event.
