Madina Divisional Police Command has arrested two lorry station masters from Ashaley Botwe on Thursday, 2 September, after police alleged they plotted to kill a woman over a debt of GH₵91,810.
The suspects, 44‑year‑old Abubakari Ateni, the current station master, and 45‑year‑old Eric Tetteh, a former station master, are accused of planning the murder after the woman demanded repayment of the money owed her.
Chief Superintendent Dr. Aba Afari, the Madina Divisional Police Commander, said the plot stemmed from a misunderstanding between the woman and Abubakari over the debt. Abubakari, who also worked as the woman’s errand driver, was allegedly advised by Tetteh to kill her to avoid further embarrassment.
According to police, the pair first intended for Abubakari to strangle the woman, but when that proved difficult they allegedly hired a third person to carry out the killing. Police say the suspects paid the hired assailant ₵2,000 upfront, with another ₵3,000 promised after the job.
The plan was for the hired assailant to shoot and kill the woman while Abubakari was driving her home to stage a robbery. The alleged serial killer, a community volunteer who works with the Madina police, was discovered and arrested before the plot could be carried out.
Chief Superintendent Afari assured Madina residents that the Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, and praised the officers who uncovered and foiled the alleged murder plot. The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
