Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II landed in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, on Monday after completing a tour of the United States. The royal guest was greeted by members of the Asanteman council and security forces who staged a parade and ceremonial salute to mark his homecoming.
During his visit, the Asantehene delivered a Royal Guest Lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he spoke on governance, cultural preservation, traditional leadership and Ghana’s enduring connections with the global African diaspora. The lecture was attended by scholars, students and members of the Ghanaian community in the United States.
In addition to the lecture, he participated in the Akwasidae celebrations – a traditional festival that commemorates the Ashanti New Year – and held meetings with representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The engagements were part of a broader itinerary that included visits to other U.S. institutions and business forums.
The return to Kumasi was celebrated with a formal welcome ceremony that included a parade of Asanteman officials and a display of traditional regalia. The ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, members of the Ghanaian diaspora in the region and security personnel who ensured the safety of the event.
Following the welcome, the Asantehene is expected to resume his regular duties in the Ashanti region, which include overseeing cultural affairs, mediating disputes and representing the Ashanti people in national matters. The visit to the United States was seen as a significant diplomatic engagement that highlighted the ties between Ghana and the African diaspora abroad.
