Army Special Operations Brigade Calls for Sustained Investment

At the graduation ceremony of the Special Operations Forces Basic Course 5‑2026, Acting Chief of Army Staff Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo stressed the need for sustained investment in the Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB). He said the brigade must be recognised as a strategic national asset, not merely a training institution.

Agbebo highlighted that the brigade’s continued development requires support across several domains: personnel, equipment, mobility, intelligence, communication, medical support, infrastructure, and logistics. He added that international cooperation and joint exercises such as Flintlock, African Lion, Templar Patrol, and Apollo Storm are essential to improve interoperability and expose operators to contemporary operational practices.

The general also warned graduating operators against abusing their specialised training or status to intimidate, harass or molest civilians. He reminded them that their badge represents responsibility, not privilege, and that they remain soldiers first, operators second, and servants of the Republic of Ghana. “Never allow confidence to become complacency or your specialised status to distance you from the wider Ghana Armed Forces,” he said.

With officials from the National Security Committee, the Deputy, and the Advisor in attendance, Agbebo underscored the importance of national security collaboration in strengthening special operations capabilities.

Moving forward, the army will seek to secure additional funding and resources to enhance ASOB’s operational effectiveness and maintain its status as a key national defence asset.
