Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Sekyere Kumawu, handed out essential school items to 500 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the district on Thursday. The distribution took place at the district’s main secondary school, where the MP presented trunks, mattresses, chop boxes, cutlasses, rubber buckets, school bags, bowls and cutlery sets to the beneficiaries.
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Anim highlighted that this year’s intervention was particularly significant because it covered most of the basic items required for students to start senior high school. He said the support went beyond the provision of physical items and reflected his commitment to investing in the human capital of the Sekyere Kumawu District.
As part of his ongoing efforts to promote education, the MP announced a GH¢500 award for the best‑performing candidates. He also pledged to visit the students at their respective senior high schools to monitor their academic progress and encourage them to stay focused on their studies.
Mr Anim urged the students to make good use of the items, study hard and avoid negative peer influence that could undermine their academic progress. The beneficiaries expressed appreciation and pledged to take good care of the items while working hard to excel in their respective senior high schools.
The initiative, now in its fourth year, is aimed at ensuring that financial difficulties do not hinder students from making a smooth transition from basic to secondary education. The MP’s support is expected to ease the burden on parents and guardians and foster a culture of academic excellence in the district.
