At a one‑week memorial held at the Akyem Hemang funeral grounds on Friday, October 16, Douglas Acheampong’s mother, Akosua Henewaa, pleaded with the government to bring those responsible for her son’s death to justice. The 29‑year‑old was allegedly shot by military personnel on August 26, 2026, after an altercation that began when soldiers detained a plain‑clothed immigration officer suspected of being an informant.

According to the family, Douglas and others tried to intervene during the arrest, leading to the fatal shooting. “I’m appealing to the government to ensure that justice is served. I plead with the government to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” Henewaa told reporters.

Oyokoa I Abusuapanyin Kwame Boakye, the family’s head, echoed the call for a thorough probe. “We call on the government to ensure a thorough probe into the matter,” he said, urging police to expedite the investigation and bring closure to the grieving family.

The incident took place in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region, where the military had detained the immigration officer after he was seen making a phone call. The family alleges that the soldiers fired at close range, killing Douglas and leaving the community stunned.

Police have yet to release a statement on the case. The family’s appeal highlights the urgent need for a transparent investigation to prevent further miscarriages of justice in the region.
