Accra Ranks 18th Best Nightlife City Worldwide

Accra has been named the 18th best nightlife city in the world by Time Out, according to a survey that collected responses from more than 24,000 city‑dwelling residents and industry experts. The ranking, which evaluates quality, affordability, social inclusion and overall vibe, places Accra alongside South Africa’s Johannesburg, which secured the 7th spot.

Survey data show that 75 % of locals feel it is easy to find genuine connection and community while out, while 65 % describe the nightlife culture as exceptionally friendly and approachable. Additionally, 62 % of respondents say going out after dark is highly affordable and 56 % give top‑tier ratings to the quality of events and music.

Traditional hotspots such as Osu continue to anchor the scene with staples like Bloom Bar, The Republic Bar & Grill and Purple Pub, but the city’s nightlife is expanding into upscale neighbourhoods. East Legon and Cantonments now host premium venues such as MAD CLUB and Enzo Accra.

Time Out also praised Accra’s evolving musical landscape, noting that while the city remains a global Afrobeats hub, a rising wave of alternative electronic, alté and 90s R&B events is injecting fresh energy into the midnight economy.

With its blend of rich cultural heritage, affordable entertainment and unmatched hospitality, Accra’s inclusion in the top 20 confirms what locals and diaspora travelers have long known: after the sun sets, few places on earth match the city’s nightlife vibrancy.
