In the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, residents of Akaa and surrounding communities have formally requested that telecommunications operators improve network coverage after repeated difficulties making telephone calls and staying connected with relatives elsewhere in the country.
Assembly Member for the Akaa Electoral Area, George Yeboah – popularly known as Teapot – highlighted the issue at a local gathering, noting that the lack of reliable service has become a major concern for the town’s residents. He said the problem extends beyond Akaa to villages such as Akaa Quarters, Akaa Adzamasi, Akaa Dzokpokofe, Akaa Bompa, Akaa Twingyina, Akaa Tankey and Akaa Kyrikasa.
“We find it difficult to make calls or communicate with relatives and other people in different regions,” Yeboah said. “The poor network connectivity is affecting communication in the area and we are really suffering because of it.”
The Assembly Member urged the relevant authorities and service providers – MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo – to intervene and strengthen their infrastructure. He appealed for concrete steps to ensure dependable mobile services for Akaa and the affected communities.
Yeboah added that improved connectivity would ease the daily challenges residents face and help address the broader communication gap created by the current poor network coverage. He called the matter an urgent priority for both the government and the operators.
Telecom operators have yet to respond publicly to the request. The community’s appeal follows a broader national conversation about expanding digital infrastructure to rural areas. If the operators act, residents could soon experience more reliable calls, data access and overall connectivity.
