Deputy Energy Minister Richard Gyan‑Mensah told Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Friday that about 2,000 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been retrieved from the country’s ports, though 283 remain unidentified.

The minister said a special committee comprising representatives from the ports, security agencies, ECG, the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority is working to trace the outstanding containers, with an official report expected by the end of October 2026.

Gyan‑Mensah explained that the retrieval effort initially moved quickly, with the team evacuating nearly 50 containers a day at times, but the pace has since slowed, with some days seeing only two or none retrieved.

He noted the remaining containers are difficult to locate because they are believed to be spread across different terminals and require checks of port and customs documentation.

The committee meets every Monday to review progress and develop strategies to recover the missing shipments. Port authorities are also reviewing their records to help identify the containers that have yet to be traced.

When the Ministry releases its final report, it will detail the containers recovered and those still unaccounted for. The report is due by the end of October.
