Two suspected armed robbers were killed on Monday morning during a high-stakes confrontation with the police following a violent attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Tema Community 5.
The Incident
The robbery unfolded around 8:30 a.m. on April 13, 2026, at the Aba Fosuah Plaza. According to a statement from ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike, posing as customers.

The Ruse: The pillion rider approached the vendor, claiming he needed to perform a “cash-out” transaction.

The Attack: As the vendor reached for her phone, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded her bag of cash.

The Struggle: The victim fought back, resulting in a physical altercation with both suspects. During the struggle, the pillion rider shot the vendor in the leg, seized the money, and the duo sped off.
Police Pursuit and Shootout
A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, stationed nearby, heard the distress calls and immediately gave chase. The suspects, riding a black Royal motorbike (M-24-GE 778), attempted to escape toward Community 6.
Near the Smart Hotel junction, the suspects opened fire on the pursuing officers. The police returned fire, wounding both men and causing them to crash. While the police rushed the suspects to the Police Hospital, they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Recovered Evidence
Following the shootout, police conducted a search and recovered several items from the suspects:

A 9mm pistol with live ammunition.

GH¢11,390 in cash.

Three mobile phones and various SIM cards.

A Ghana Card (later confirmed to belong to the victim).

A talisman and a motorbike key.
Current Status
The MoMo vendor is currently hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition. The bodies of the suspects have been moved to the mortuary for identification and autopsy.
