Lebanese Community Bolsters Ghana Police with GH₵2 Million Resource Package

In a major move to strengthen national security and enhance healthcare for the men and women in uniform, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mohammed Baabakaki, together with renowned businessman and philanthropist Mohammed Addams Riai, has donated a substantial resource package worth GH₵2 million to the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
The donation, presented during a brief ceremony at the Police Headquarters, is aimed at boosting the operational efficiency of the service and improving the quality of care at the Police Hospital.
Enhancing Mobility and Intelligence
To address the logistical needs of modern policing, the donation includes a new fleet of vehicles designed for both urban and rural terrain:
-
Three Nissan Navara Pickups: These will be deployed for field operations to enhance the visibility of the police and ensure a faster response to emergencies.
-
20 Apsonic Motorbikes: Specifically intended to boost intelligence-gathering and rapid-response capabilities, allowing officers to navigate traffic and difficult terrain with ease.

Upgrading the Police Hospital
Beyond tactical equipment, the donors emphasized the importance of officer welfare and community health. The package includes:
-
30 Air-Conditioning Units: To be installed across various wards to provide a comfortable environment for recovering patients.
-
20 43-inch Television Sets: Aimed at modernizing the hospital’s patient wards and waiting areas.
A Partnership Built on Shared Values
During the presentation, Ambassador Baabakaki highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Lebanese community and the people of Ghana. He noted that the donation is a testament to the community’s commitment to supporting the state’s efforts in maintaining law and order.
“The safety of this nation is a shared responsibility,” the Ambassador stated. “By equipping the police, we are investing in the peace and stability that allows every citizen and resident to thrive.”
Philanthropist Mohammed Addams Riai echoed these sentiments, adding that the contribution to the Police Hospital was particularly close to his heart. “Supporting those who protect us is the least we can do. We hope these items provide both the tactical edge the police need and the comfort our officers deserve when they are unwell.”
Police Response
Receiving the items on behalf of the Service, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture. He assured the donors that the equipment would be maintained strictly and deployed strategically to combat crime.

The IGP noted that the motorbikes, in particular, would be a “game-changer” for the service’s new intelligence-led policing initiatives, while the hospital upgrades would significantly boost the morale of personnel.
